Janet Hardie Harvey, Irvine Nature Center Administrator and Johnston Square Advocate, Passes Away

Janet Hardie Harvey, a former Irvine Nature Center administrator who became an advocate for the Johnston Square neighborhood, died of cervical cancer Saturday at her home. She was 66.

Harvey was born in 1958 and grew up in Johnston Square. She graduated from Classical High School and went on to earn a degree in environmental science from the University of Rhode Island. After college, she worked at the Irvine Nature Center for over 20 years, where she was responsible for developing and implementing educational programs.

In 2020, Harvey retired from the Irvine Nature Center and became an advocate for the Johnston Square neighborhood. She was a member of the Johnston Square Neighborhood Association and served on the board of directors. She was also a vocal opponent of the proposed development of a new apartment complex in the neighborhood.

Harvey's passing is a great loss to the Johnston Square community. She was a dedicated advocate for the neighborhood and will be dearly missed.
